To request a review of a closed KDP account, start with Amazon’s notice. Follow its appeal instructions and connect each disputed point to evidence someone else can check.
You do not need a long letter. You need the right facts, relevant documents and a clear request. If you are unsure whether Amazon closed your account or blocked one book, first read our guide to a closed KDP account.
1. Read the notice before writing your reply
Save the complete notice, including its date, subject and case reference. Read earlier messages too: a concern about a cover and a request to prove publishing rights may need different answers.
- List the books and editions Amazon identifies.
- Write down the stated reason, without replacing it with a guess.
- Check where Amazon asks you to send your response and whether a deadline is given.
- Read your previous appeals so that your next reply does not accidentally contradict them.
The KDP terms provide for instructions on appealing termination if you believe it was an error. Follow your case instructions. If Amazon asks you to reply to the notice, use that route.
2. Separate a factual error from a problem you need to fix
If you believe Amazon made a mistake, identify the point and provide evidence. For example, if it questions your publishing rights, point to the relevant section of your signed agreement. Saying “I wrote the book” may leave the question unanswered.
If you find a real problem, explain what you changed and how you can show it. A licence bought today does not establish that you held those rights when you published the book.
Be precise when you cannot access KDP
Do not say you updated a book online if your closed account prevents you from doing so. You may have prepared a replacement cover or corrected a local file. Explain that distinction and ask how to submit it for review.
3. Choose evidence that answers the question
Keep the notice, earlier appeals and evidence together. Give files descriptive names, such as “Italian-edition-rights-agreement.pdf”. Explain what each attachment demonstrates.
- Publishing rights: an agreement, permission or rights reversion document covering the relevant format and territory.
- Cover or description: the published version and your proposed replacement, with a short explanation of the differences.
- Book content: the passages at issue and verifiable information about their origin.
Amazon states that a copyright page inside a book is not enough to establish publishing rights. A payment receipt also needs to be considered alongside the rights actually granted in the agreement or licence.
4. Write a short, specific request
State the decision received, the point you want reviewed, your evidence, any action taken and your request. Only include statements that are true for your case.
An example to adapt, not send unchanged
Subject: review request — [case reference]. On [date], I received notice that my KDP account was closed because of [stated reason]. I request a review of [specific point]. I attach [document], which shows [verifiable fact, including the relevant page or section]. I have also [action actually completed, if relevant]. Please review this information and let me know whether you need further evidence to reconsider the account decision.
Remove irrelevant sentences and all placeholders. Check names, dates and book details against your documents. The example does not guarantee reinstatement.
5. Keep track of what happens next
Save the message you send and its attachments. When Amazon replies, establish whether it requests information, states a decision or only confirms receipt. An acknowledgement is not approval.
If your appeal is rejected, read the reason before submitting it again. A further request should clarify an unresolved point or add relevant evidence. Avoid sending the same text to several addresses without following the case instructions.
Can I appeal if Amazon calls its decision final?
Read that wording alongside the stated reason and any instructions you received. A different tone alone will not establish a case for a different outcome. Before requesting another review, check whether you can identify a documented error or relevant new evidence.
How long does a review take, and will my books return?
We cannot promise a standard reinstatement time. Follow any timing given for your case. If Amazon restores the account, read the reply carefully: check separately which books may be submitted again and what it says about royalties.
You can request a review of your KDP account closure if you would like us to examine the notice and previous appeals.
